Arlington County Public Schools received 4 CNG school buses during the winter of 2006. Funding for the incremental cost of the CNG option was provided by Virginia Clean Cities through State Energy Program Special Projects funding.
The 4 Thomas 78-passenger CNG school buses were purchased from Sonny Merryman, Inc. and are equipped with a John Deere CNG engine. Arlington reported surprising acceleration and comparable handling to other Arlington school bus units.
