Improving Energy, Environmental, and Economic Security

Hydrogen Education for Decision Makers

The goal of the two-year project is to increase a targeted audience’s understanding of hydrogen and fuel cells, including early market applications, and to provide specific examples of actions that the targeted audience – state and local government leaders – can take to support the development and use of hydrogen and fuel cell technology leading to a better understanding of the community benefits that can result.

A dozen in-person workshops will be conducted by technical experts and professional educators over the course of two years. Video resources will be professionally produced by and broadcast on the MotorWeek public television series to reach the targeted audience and the general public with hands-on examples of fuel cell hardware, as well as basic information on hydrogen production, delivery and storage. A website, podcasts, webcasts and “new media” also will help to carry the message.

In order to change the way we use energy and realize the vision of the hydrogen economy, not only will
research and development need to persist by engineers and scientists, but government and other
community decision-makers will need to make informed policy choices to encourage early markets,
commercialization and deployment of hydrogen-based energy technologies.

Who Should Attend? Decision makers and leaders in government, commerce and community: local and state agencies, leaders and staff involved in energy, environment, transportation, first response, emergency preparedness, code enforcement, conservation, communications, homeland security
