2011 Clean Cities Interns:

Shane Riordan

Hi, my name is Shane Riordan, and I am very excited to be a part of Virginia Clean Cities for the summer of 2011. I am a middle school science teacher during the academic year, and have been instructing students in the public and private schools in New York City since 2003.

In the last few years my students have started to ask more questions about the benefits of using alternative fuels, especially as more of New York City’s transportation system starts to switch over to using them. I took this internship to learn more, in part so that I could better answer my student’s questions regarding the subject. My other reason for pursuing this internship was to make a positive change in how this country uses fuel and energy resources. My wife and I recently had our first child, making the challenges of responsible stewardship of the planet’s natural resources very important to me.

I will be based out of the Harrisonburg office at James Madison University for the summer. I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with Virginia Clean Cities members and stakeholder groups in the days and weeks ahead.
